Jean Jacques Berne-Bellecour (1874-1939) was a painter from the Berne-Bellecour family and was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. His father recorded the 1870 war and Jean recorded the 1914-1918 conflict. He studied at the Beaux-Arts studio and was the favorite study of Edouard Detaille. Having exhibited at the Salon of French artists, the Salon des Independants and also in Mulhouse, Lille, Douai and Lyon and is known for effects of snow. Many admirers of his war paintings will also realize he was a very fine portrait and landscape artist. This artwork is one of his landscapes which is exquisite.
As a military painter he received the Society of French Artists medal. His works are in Mulhouse and San Francisco but mostly amongst private collectors.
