ABOUT the ARTIST:

Brian Blood is a renowned California Impressionist painter known for his plein-air landscapes and seascapes. Born in the early 1960s, Blood initially pursued a career in graphic design and art direction in Boston, Massachusetts. However, feeling unfulfilled, he made a significant career change and moved to California to study fine art at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Blood's artistic journey led him to become one of California's most important plein-air impressionist artists. He creates hundreds of studies directly from nature, observing the ever-changing light of day, which he then uses as the basis for larger studio works. His style is characterized by loosely painted forms within formal compositions, creating works that are both placid and stimulating.

Currently residing in Pebble Beach, California, with his wife Laurie Kersey, who is also an accomplished artist, Blood has dedicated himself to painting full-time since the 1990s. He conducts landscape painting classes and workshops, sharing his expertise with aspiring artists. Blood's work has been featured in numerous prestigious art publications, including Southwest Art Magazine, Art of the West, and American Artist Magazine. He is a Signature Member of The Oil Painters of America, The Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters, and The Northern California Painters Group, as well as an Artist member of the California Art Club.

One of Brian Blood's notable works is "Sunday at the Louvre," painted in 2002. This oil painting on artist board showcases Blood's ability to capture the essence of a scene, likely depicting the iconic Louvre museum in Paris on a Sunday, when it's typically bustling with visitors. The painting demonstrates Blood's skill in creating compelling imagery from everyday scenes, a characteristic he is known for in his artistic approach.
